Manuel V. Pangilinan

Chairman of the Board, FINTQnologies

Mr. Pangilinan, or MVP as people fondly call him, is the Chairman of FINTQnologies. He is also the Chairman of the Board of Voyager Innovations. He is leading the digital transformation of PLDT as well as its wireless unit, Smart Communications (Smart), as Chairman, President and CEO.

He serves as the Managing Director and CEO of First Pacific. In the Philippines, Mr. Pangilinan is also Chairman of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC), Manila Electric Company (Meralco), ePLDT, Inc., Maynilad Water Services, Inc., Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, Manila North Tollways Corporation, Philex Mining Corporation, Philex Petroleum Corporation, Landco Pacific Corporation, Medical Doctors, Inc. (Makati Medical Center), Davao Doctors, Inc. and Colinas Verdes Corporation (Cardinal Santos Medical Center), Mediaquest Holdings, Inc. and Associated Broadcasting Corporation (TV 5), and the Vice Chairman of Roxas Holdings, Inc.

Mr. Pangilinan graduated cum laude from the Ateneo de Manila University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. He received his MBA degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. In Manila, he worked for Philippine Investment Management Consultants Inc. (PHINMA) in the Philippines, and in Hong Kong with Bancom International Limited and American Express Bank. Thereafter he founded First Pacific in May 1981.

In May 2006, the Office of the President of the Philippines awarded Mr. Pangilinan the Order of Lakandula, rank of Komandante in recognition of his contributions to the country. He was named Management Man of the Year 2005 by the Management Association of the Philippines. Mr. Pangilinan was awarded Honorary Doctorates in Science by Far Eastern University in 2010, in Humanities by Holy Angel University in 2008, by Xavier University in 2007 and by San Beda College in 2002 in the Philippines. He was formerly Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ateneo de Manila University and was a member of the Board of Overseers of the Wharton School.

In civic duties, Mr. Pangilinan sits as Chairman of the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), PLDT-Smart Foundation Inc., One Meralco Foundation, Inc., Philippine Disaster Recovery Foundation (PDRF), and is a director of the Philippine Business for Education (PBED). He is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of San Beda College and of the Holy Angel University in Pampanga, as well as Co-Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Stratbase Albert del Rosario Institute.

In sports, Mr. Pangilinan is Chairman of the MVP Sports Foundation Inc., President of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and Chairman of the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP).

Orlando B. Vea 

Mr. Vea is one of the country’s most successful digital entrepreneurs. He cofounded Smart with Dave Fernando in 1991 and he served as its President and CEO until 2000. During that time, Smart was acquired by First Pacific. He led Smart during its period as a startup until it became the market leader in the mobile telecommunications industry. He moved to found various companies, among them, is CIGNAL, now the leading direct to home digital cable channel. He went on to head the PLDT Group’s media and content business as President and CEO of MediaQuest Holdings, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the PLDT Beneficial Trust Fund, responsible for the Group’s thrust into Mobile TV, Direct to Home TV and its initiatives toward other major mass media and new media platforms.

He then returned to Smart as its Chief Wireless Advisor in 2008. Three years ago, in January 2013, Mr. Vea led the formation of Voyager Innovations, the digital innovations unit of PLDT and Smart where he serves as President and CEO. Voyager Innovations together with its various spin-out businesses including FINTQnologies, Takatack Technologies, and PayMaya Philippines now form the Voyager Group which is the leading the way for digital innovations for emerging markets.

Lito is the country’s leading inclusive digital finance accelerator, subject matter expert, and award-winning thought leader and innovator. He is one of the founding executives of Voyager Innovations and PayMaya. He started PLDT Group’s FinTech business and made it as the country’s biggest FinTech startup company with the most extensive digital footprint covering all 81 provinces. He has founded KasamaKA as a national movement for financial inclusion and social advocacy for inclusive growth supported by various local government leagues and commended by the Philippine Senate.  He was the first and only Filipino to be included in Asia’s Top 100 FinTech Leaders. He received close to 50 accolades in four years such as the BSP Outstanding Financial Inclusion Partner, Asia Responsible Enterprise Award for social empowerment, and the Asian Banker’s Consumer Finance Product of the Year awards, among others. He was formerly with Visa and International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group. He is currently the chairman of the FinTechAlliance.ph, the industry group composed of leading digital companies in the country today.
